This applet looks at how the shape of the two-dimensional cross-section of a filter affects the results generated when it is used to scale an image. Users are able to sketch and resize their own filters or use previously generated filters and see how each filter affects the scaling of a subregion of an image.
Aimed at individuals wanting a more thorough understanding of the relationship between a filter shape and the results generated when it is used to filter an image.
Manipulate the selection in the top-left window to determine which subsection of the image will be scaled. Draw a filter shape in the filter sketcher in the upper-right, or select a pre-defined filter from the menu in the menubar. Resize one of the two selections in the lower half of the applet window... the one on the lower-left represents the image scaled using the ideal filter (the triangle filter)... the one on the lower-right represents the image scaled using the filter specified by the user.
